Prof. Dr. Andrea Sangiorgio ist seit Dezember 2015 Professor für Elementare Musikpädagogik an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. Seit 2017 ist er Studiendekan und seit 2019 Leiter des Instituts IV für künstlerisch-pädagogische Studiengänge.

Er hat sich während seiner Ausbildung intensiv mit dem Orff-Schulwerk sowie mit übergreifenden (musik)pädagogischen Themen beschäftigt:

  • PHD an der University of Exeter, Großbritannien, zum Thema "Collaborative creativity in music education: Children's interactions in group creative music making" (2016);
  • Master of Science in Erziehungswissenschaft an derselben Universität (2011);
  • Magisterstudium an der römischen Universität "Tor Vergata" mit einer Abschlussarbeit zum Thema "Orff-Schulwerk as Anthropology of Music" (2006);
  • Klavierstudium in Italien (Conservatorio di Pesaro, 1999);
  • Zweijähriges Studium am Orff-Institut für Elementare Musik- und Tanzpädagogik, Universität Mozarteum, Salzburg (1994-97).

Von 1997 bis 2022 ist er als Co-Direktor dem CDM Centro Didattico Musicale vorgestanden, einer privaten Musikschule in Rom, an der er bis 2015 auch als Musiklehrer tätig gewesen ist (Schlaginstrumente für Anfänger, Erwachsenen- und Kinderchor, Orff- und Perkussionsensemble, Elementare Improvisation und Komposition mit Kindern). Mit dem CDM und in Zusammenarbeit mit der Römischen Universität "Tor Vergata" leitet er seit 2007 einen einjährigen Orff-Schulwerk Fortbildungskurs für Musiklehrkräfte sowie Kindergärtner*innen und Grundschullehrkräfte.

Im Bereich der Lehrerbildung ist er international (Italien, Deutschland, Österreich, Spanien, Finnland, Frankreich, Rußland, Libanon, Großbritannien, Irland, Süd-Korea, Tschechische Republik, China, Taiwan, Schweiz, Iran, Türkei, Australien, Griechenland, USA, Brasilien, Niederlande, Belgien) als Spezialist für Elementare Musik- und Bewegungserziehung, mit Beiträgen zum gemeinsamen Musizieren mit Orff- und Perkussionsinstrumenten, zur Gruppenimprovisation und musikalischen Kreativität, und zu den kognitionspsychologischen Aspekten musikalischen Lernens hervorgetreten.

Seit 2014 ist er im Vorstand des International Orff-Schulwerk Forum Salzburg. Vom Juli 2018 bis August 2023 ist er Vizepräsident des Forums gewesen.
